Important Changes To Youth Protection Training Policies
National BSA Website
Flyer on New Change Effective June 1st
Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA.
To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies.
Effective June 1, 2010: Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position. New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.

Service Project Opportunity For a Troop or Crew
Email Forward From: John O'Neil, District Executive
I received this e-mail from the ranger at Terra Ceia Preserve. He is looking for a Troop or Crew to come down to help with a service project. This State Park is at the southern end of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, it offers a great opportunity for primitive camping, kayaking, fishing, and more.

Email:
I work at Terra Ceia Preserve State Park, we have very special request for a service project. We do have some time constraints involved. The project itself would include removing trash and debris from an area of the preserve that is currently undergoing restoration to native habitat. We are very much in need of volunteers to do this. We have to have the project completed prior to Sept. 30th. We are able to supply equipment and primitive camping, whatever else the scouts may need.
It would not be very physically demanding. The area is adjacent to Frog Creek, in a very natural area of the preserve. I promise we would make it fun for the scouts as well. They would have opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and nature hikes. A Park Ranger would also be available to give a talk about the preserve and what we are trying to achieve.
Should you any questions, please feel free to contact me. My work cell phone number is 941 737-2243.
Thank you for your consideration,
